Conventional cleaning products contain a cocktail of synthetic chemicals including quaternary ammonium compounds (quats), synthetic fragrances (phthalates), chlorine bleach, and 2-butoxyethanol. These are absorbed through skin, inhaled as aerosols, and ingested as residues on cleaned surfaces. Children who crawl on cleaned floors are particularly vulnerable.
Why We Rated It This Way
Tide contains synthetic fragrance (hiding phthalates), synthetic dyes, and optical brighteners that remain on fabric after washing. These chemicals are absorbed through skin from clothing worn all day. Fragrance-free, dye-free alternatives are available.
