Non-stick cookware coated with PTFE (Teflon) or other PFAS compounds releases toxic particles and gases when overheated or scratched. These 'forever chemicals' accumulate in the body and have been linked to thyroid disease, cancer, and immune dysfunction. Every meal cooked in a scratched non-stick pan is a potential exposure event.
Why We Rated It This Way
T-fal's PTFE coating is a PFAS compound. When overheated, it releases toxic gases that have been documented to kill pet birds and cause flu-like symptoms in humans. Scratched PTFE releases particles directly into food. This is one of the most common sources of PFAS exposure in American kitchens.
