Plastic food containers are one of the highest-risk items in any home. Heating food in plastic containers — especially in a microwave — dramatically accelerates leaching of BPA, phthalates, and other endocrine disruptors directly into your food.
Why We Recommend This Product
Glass is the safest material for food contact. Pyrex's borosilicate glass contains no plastic in the storage vessel itself.
Chemical & Health Analysis
BPA (bisphenol A)
Found in polycarbonate containers. A potent estrogen mimic — disrupts hormonal signaling at extremely low doses. Linked to breast cancer, prostate cancer, obesity, ADHD, and reproductive disorders. Banned from baby bottles in the US in 2012 but still present in many adult food containers.
BPS / BPF (BPA substitutes)
Used in 'BPA-free' plastics. Emerging research shows similar endocrine-disrupting activity to BPA. The replacement may be as harmful as the original.
Phthalates (in PP lids)
Polypropylene lids often contain phthalate plasticizers. When heated in a microwave, leaching rates increase by 55x compared to room temperature.
