Conventional chemical sunscreens contain oxybenzone, octinoxate, homosalate, and other UV filters that are absorbed through the skin and detected in blood, urine, and breast milk. The FDA has found that oxybenzone reaches blood concentrations 277 times higher than the safety threshold after a single day of use. Mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) are not absorbed through the skin.
Why We Rated It This Way
Coppertone Sport contains multiple chemical UV filters that are absorbed through the skin and detected in blood and urine. Mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide) are not absorbed and provide equivalent sun protection.
