Wave Hybrid Mattress
The Casper Wave Hybrid is a popular mattress combining polyurethane foam layers with pocketed coils. CertiPUR-US certified, which limits certain chemicals, but the mattress still off-gasses VOCs from the foam. Not a plastic-free or organic product.
How scores are calculated
Materials (40%): How plastic-free the product is — raw materials, construction, and coatings.
Packaging (20%): Is the product packaged in plastic? Is it recyclable?
Transparency (20%): Does the brand disclose ingredients, sourcing, and manufacturing?
Durability (20%): How long does it last? Longer-lasting products reduce plastic waste over time.
This is a rating of this specific product only — not the company. Other products from this brand may score differently.

Casper's foam mattresses are made primarily from polyurethane foam, which off-gasses VOCs and contains chemical flame retardants. CertiPUR-US certification limits some chemicals but does not eliminate off-gassing.
Why We Rated It This Way
CertiPUR-US certification is a step in the right direction, but Casper's foam mattresses still off-gas VOCs and contain synthetic materials. For a product you sleep on for 8 hours a night, organic materials are worth the investment.
