How scores are calculated
Materials (40%): How plastic-free the product is — raw materials, construction, and coatings.
Packaging (20%): Is the product packaged in plastic? Is it recyclable?
Transparency (20%): Does the brand disclose ingredients, sourcing, and manufacturing?
Durability (20%): How long does it last? Longer-lasting products reduce plastic waste over time.
This is a rating of this specific product only — not the company. Other products from this brand may score differently.

Non-stick cookware coated with PTFE (Teflon) or other PFAS compounds releases toxic particles and gases when overheated or scratched. These 'forever chemicals' accumulate in the body and have been linked to thyroid disease, cancer, and immune dysfunction. Every meal cooked in a scratched non-stick pan is a potential exposure event.
Why We Rated It This Way
Calphalon's 'PFOA-free' marketing is misleading — PTFE itself is a PFAS compound. The hard anodized base is better than standard aluminum, but the PTFE coating is the primary concern. Premium price does not mean safer chemistry.
